Low Altitude Atlas & Others Species.
Atlas that multiplies into a hundred pages by the gallery wall. Made from an aviation manual from the (19) 60s where there are technical coordinates on low altitude flights and approach of airports in the north of Africa and Europe. Superimposed on this publication is a 19th-century Natural history book on which we can see illustrations of the comparative bird's anatomy.
This cross between the two books reveals the author's fascination with picture books but also the “objet trouvé”, in this case, left next to the garbage cans of a city on the outskirts of Lisbon, becoming an autonomous work.
In this gesture, JPS makes an analogy between the flight of birds and airplanes in this geographical axis of the preferred destination for migrating birds in Europe. With global warming and the temperatures rising, it has been verified that the birds stay longer, delaying the migratory cycle and causing imbalances in the ecosystem, both in terms of fauna and flora.
Air transport is one of the most polluting activities, estimated to emit more than 10 million tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. Despite representing only 2% of emissions, we know that they are the most harmful, compared to other sources because they occur at a high altitude which potentiates carbon dioxide directly affecting the concentration of greenhouse gases, intensifying the phenomenon of global warming.
